The Free State Bluegrass Music Festival is all about great entertainment and lots of great FAMILY fun. This festival along with others is devoted to being a family event. A place where all the family can enjoy themselves. Where the children Can ride their bicycles, run and play with their toys. A place where old friends and new friends visit together in fellowship, eat, have fun together and listen to great music. The festival kicks off on Wednesday evening around 3:00 PM with a huge Texas style fish fry and Gerald Turner's home made ice cream. All furnished by the City of Canton and the Chamber of Commerce. Jim and Doye Fuller along with many of their children and grand children, city employees, Chamber of Commerce members, main street Development members and city officials cook and serve at this event. To all us Bluegrassers that have enjoyed the music, friendship and family entertainment all these years. We have to reach out and try to find ways to bring more young people and kids in to the Bluegrass family. Each of us need to devote ourselves to bringing at least one new person a year to a Bluegrass festival Without the young there is simply no way to keep this wonderful music and the family oriented events of festivals alive. We are working hard to have entertainment pleasing to all, along with many family fun events. If you have attended our festival we thank you and hope you will return year after year. Jim and Doye Fuller started the Free State Bluegrass Music Festival in Canton TX. In 1977. After many years even with the success of the festival that grew quite large in size. We had to turn the festival over to other promoters. Jim and I have seven children and had to devote more time to making a living. Although we never stopped attending many of the great festivals. Now that our family is all grown and we have many grand-children and yes great grand-children. We wanted to start the festival once again. We have gained so many wonderful friends in bluegrass over the years and with the love of introducing new people to the family of Bluegrass. We want to give the festival back to all the great people associated with Bluegrass.
